俳句に「梅雨晴れ間」という季語がある。季語というのは便利な語で、これだけで、時には短編一章分の背景を描いたのと同じ効果を持たせることができる。俳句という世界の中では、特別に凝縮された一語だということになる。
表現とはこういうものが理想だろうと思う。絵ならば、一瞬（じっくり、でも良いが）で、小説一巻分の内容を眼から受け取ることができるもの。
確かにそんな絵もある。
