「手すさび」という言葉はもう死語だろうか。暇つぶしの手遊び、というほどの意味だが、現代人にはもう暇などないのかもしれない。
スケッチの本領は、じつは描くことにではなく、「じっと見る」ことにある。いい加減なものは、じっと見られることに耐えられない。きちんと作られたもの、よく考えられたもの、多くの人に愛されたもの。そうしたものは、深く見られれば見られるほど、次第に、厳かにその真価を現してくる。その真価に目と手で触れること、それがスケッチだ。
スケッチを描く意味は、ただ形や色を写すことにはない。視線の先にあるものと繋がること。ペンと紙、眼と対象物が繋がって一つのループになること、それが描くということだ。ペンの先、線の先から、無数の見えない糸がさらにオーラのように延びて、モノの放つオーラとつながる。「見ることは愛すること」と誰かが言った。生きたスケッチとはそういうもの。
動画編集は難しい―２。絵の動画なら、とりあえず絵を描くのはどうということはない。撮影も、まあ何とか。けれど編集作業では、荒野をひとりさまようような孤独感をあじわう。
画像編集ソフトにはチュートリアルという、いわば体験学習のビデオがおまけについている。2分とかせいぜい5分程度にまとめられた手順を、一つ一つなぞることで編集の流れと操作を体験し、そのあとで実際に自分のプロジェクトをやる、という流れになっている。
手順１。何がどうなっているのか皆目意味不明のまま、画面をすいすいと説明のカーソルが移動し、ホイホイと場面が変わる。理解できないまま何度も繰り返して見る。あんぐり口を開けたままなのに気づくまで30分も経っている。自分の番が来ても手が動かない。「シーケンスは？」と問われても「は？シーケンス？」。いちいちその意味を調べ、そうやって時間はどんどん過ぎていく。
まる一日かかって、ほぼ成果なく終わる。そんな日はほんとうに気持ちが腐る。「自分には無理なのではないか」「他にもっと意味のある時間の使い方があったのではないか」。英語習いたての中学生が、いきなり本格的な英文の小説を読み始めたって感じかな。単語の意味だけ分かっても場面はぜんぜん浮かばない、そんなつらい読み方。
