昨日はクリスマスだった。さらにその前日のイブの夜、子どもが大学から帰ってきたのが11時に近かったので、その前に仕方なく夕ご飯を二人で食べてしまった。料理下手の妻にしては、あれこれ工夫して作ったクリスマスのご馳走の方には手をつけず、テーブルに冷えたままにして妻は疲れて寝てしまった。
私は車で駅まで迎えに行く。帰宅後子どもはゴソゴソとどこからかカップラーメンとスナックを引っ張り出してきて、それだけを食べ、せっかく作ったものには手をつけないまま、彼もまた疲れてその場に寝てしまう。私は彼が起きるまで（あるいは彼を無理やり起こすまで）アトリエで絵を描くか、しばらくパソコンで作業する。若い人のいる家庭では珍しくない情景に違いない。
「水彩＋パステル」では彩度的にパステルが目立ちがちになる。しかも凸凹のテクスチャーも目を引きやすい。この絵は水彩をベースに表現したいので、パステルの出番はできるだけ抑えてみた。
水彩とパステルでは、組成上パステルの方が彩度が高い。つまり鮮やかで目立ちやすい。だからこの２つの組み合わせなら、目立つところ、明るいところへパステルを使う方が効果的だと言える（水彩は暗い部分、広い部分を受け持つことになる）。けれどご用心。目立ち過ぎはご法度。ほどほどが大切でござるよ。
10点ほど続けて、表現としては水彩単独より目を惹きやすいのは解った。But、なんだかちょっと飽きてきた。水彩＋パステルというより、この描写的な表現法に飽きてきたようだ。テーブル面や影の描写に「もうたくさん」と描いてあるのを感じますか？
