なぜ人は歌うのか。わたし自身も誰もいないところで（たとえば運転中）何気なく歌うことはある。なぜか大勢の人の中にいるとき、場とは無関係に、声は出さずに心の中で歌ってしまうこともある。理由がありそうなときも無い時もあるが、結局はそのときの気分次第というしかない。And、そのときの気分にぴったりの歌を知らないことを、時には残念に思ったりもする。

若い人たちはすごく音楽を聴いている（と感じる）。ある意味で音楽が彼らの日常を支え、励ましているからなのだろう。音楽は彼らの声でもあるのだ。衆議院選挙が近いこともあり、歌と言葉についてちょっとだけ想像を広げてみた。

言葉と歌の距離は、文学史的にはかなり近い。そもそもことばにリズムと音階を載せれば一応は「歌」のかたちになる。so、その歌詞をよく見ると、古代から現代まで政治的メッセージであることは少なくない。たとえばビートルズの「イマジン」。政治性を感じないという方がおかしいというほどのメッセージ性。歌は政治に近い―政治は論理的であるべきだとは思うが、（日本の）｢政治」の言葉はそこからわざと、論理からも感覚からもずっと離れたところへ行こうとしているように見える。平俗的？に言えば「当選本位」の「キャッチフレーズ・オンリー」。つまりは「広告」だ。政治（のことば）が広告看板そのものになり下がってしまっている。―政治が音楽や美術などの芸術や、学問を軽んじているから尚更だ。

政治家が好んで取り上げる「文化」といえばせいぜいスポーツ。「東京オリンピック2020（事実は2021年）」期間中、某総理大臣がわざわざ官邸に記者を呼んで、金メダリストにお祝いの電話をかけるパフォーマンスを繰り返した。これを見て多くの日本人は、自分の股間を人前で何の羞恥心もなくさらけ出しているような、いわば21世紀の日本がまだサル（猿）の社会のままであるかのような精神的屈辱を味わわされたのではないだろうか。at least i、ニュース画像中の得々とした彼の顔に、サル（猿）のマスクを重ねないでは正視出来なかった。新首相はまだマシかと一瞬思ったが、もう忘れかけていた「アベノマスク」の「生地の新調」に過ぎなかったので、やはり「アベスガサル芝居・第二幕」の幕開けだったのか、と腑に落ちた。

人はなぜ歌うのか。それは人はなぜ絵を描くのか、人はなぜ学問をするのか、と同じ問いだ。世界がどうあれ、日本の政治がどうあれ、わたしたちは若い人も、老人も、とりあえずは「明日も明後日もあるものとして」生きていく。I don't know about tomorrow、But、明後日のことなら歌ってみたい。―――歌は自ずから・・・と書きかけたが、せめて明後日のために―寂しい口笛になってしまった。
