アメリカのトランプ大統領が、自分が就任したら「24時間で（ウクライナ戦争を）終わらせる」、and半分ジョークのつもりで言った（はずだ）。そんなのを真に受ける人など世界のどこにもいない、と思っていたが、それをメディアが書き立てた（もちろん本人はそれを別の意味で意識していただろうが）。それを多少は気にしたか、6ヶ月くらい、と言い直したから、さらにマスコミが「発言が後退」と騒ぎたてた。トランプ氏は「この野郎」とでも、メディアに対して思ったのだろう。

もともと大好きな（彼は「独裁者」が好きなようだ）プーチン大統領と二人だけでウクライナ戦争の（一時）停戦を実現させようとしているようだ。「6ヶ月以内を目標に」。「口だけでなく、実際にやった」とメディアに鼻を明かして見せたいのだろう。もともと彼はメディアの人間でもあったから。

But、それだけでなく、彼は基本は商人である。その商人根性まる出しの行動が、ウクライナに「レアアース」をよこせ、というドサクサ紛れの要求だ。いわゆる「ミンスク合意」には頬かむり、まるで100％善意であるかのような支援を装ったままでの要求は、ほとんど「火事場泥棒」的だとわたしには思われる。
on the other hand、このバカげた戦争を始めた張本人であるプーチン氏には何一つ要求しないどころか、独裁者好きらしい「ご丁重な」扱い。一方のゼレンスキー氏に対しては、最初から「優秀なセールスマン」などと、上から目線である。

　そういう行動がいかにアメリカ自身を貶めているか、彼の掲げる Make America Great Again （MAGA）にも矛盾しているのは多くの人々の指摘するとおりである。西欧側が反発するのは当然（チェコやハンガリーのように、反発に反発する国もあるが）だが、それにもそれぞれ “別腹” があって、結局は「自分たちさえよければあとはどうでもいい」という、本来の欲望が見え隠れする。もうこれ以上書く気を無くしそうだが、In that sense、ストレートに「モノをよこせ」というアメリカ、ロシアの方が、ケダモノらしく正直なようにも見える。

野球のイチロー元選手が、日本人として初めてアメリカの野球殿堂入りをした、というニュースが日本中に流れた。それについてわたしがつけ加えられることは何もないが、ひとつだけ、「自分にも関わること」として書いておきたいことがある。

わたしがイチロー氏を尊敬するのは、彼の成績が超人的だから、isn't it。自分自身をとことん見抜いていく我慢強さと、ある種の「精神の弱さ（あるいは強さ）」とを、彼独自の思想によって融合させたことにある。野球殿堂入りへの投票では満票に1票足りなかった。そのことについて「良かった。自分に足りないものがあるということはいいことだ」と語った言葉にも、そのことがはっきりと表現されている。そして「これからが大事だ」。いかにもイチロー氏らしい、極上のコメントである。

自分は弱い、他の人に及ばないところがたくさんある、と気づく「（気の）弱さ」が彼の「繊細な強さ」の底辺にある、とわたしは常々感嘆してきた。彼の素直な感性なのだろう。そしてそれを「何とか人並みに（少なくとも「あいつらより上に」などと思い上がってはいなかったに違いない）」の努力をたゆまず、人の意見は参考にはしても、結果はすべて自己責任とする「イチロー的」思想を胸の中に育て上げ、結果としてあの高みに達したのだと思う。一つ一つは誰でも少しはできること。But、ほとんどの人が途中でサボるか諦めるかの二択になる。

たとえばイチローを有名にした、独自考案の「筋トレマシーン」がある。当時は、もともと体力に優れた米国などの選手たちにとって、筋トレなど、いくらトレーナーに説かれても心底から必要性など感じられていなかった。But、日本人の中でさえ体格の大きい方ではないイチロー氏は、渡米一年目にしてすぐ好成績を残しながらも、心の中では米国選手との体力差を肌で感じたのに違いない。「今と同じことが明日も、来シーズンも出来るのか」、そんな不安がぬぐえなかったに違いない。And、選手や米国マスコミからの冷やかしや嘲笑を浴びながらも、黙々と筋トレマシーンに向かうしか選択肢はなかったに違いない。走ること、投げること、考えることのすべてにおいてそれは続けられた。
　そして身に着いたのは筋力、体力以上に、他人がどう言おうと自分の感性を信じ実行する、という「精神の強さ」だったとわたしは思う。それがわたし自身と比較しての、（比較はわたし個人にしか意味がないが (^-^;）イチロー氏の偉大さだ。
