Starting tomorrow、晨春会展が始まる。６月6日（日）17:00まで。昨年はコロナ禍を考慮して、東日本大震災の時でさえ開催してきた展覧会を初めて中止した。今年も中止するかどうか議論したが、now、活動を継続すること自体が意義あるとして開催することにした。

ネットだけで公開することもできる。「見るだけ」なら写真の解像度次第では、肉眼より詳しく見ることも可能である。But、実物をその会場で見るのは、それらとはかなり違って見える。I know that I can only do what I can't do, but I'm frustrated、感じると言った方が近い。それは簡単な理由からで、会場には会場の空気があるからである。会場の空気とは、作者と何かを共有する空気ということになろうか。会場に作者がいるから、ということではない。レオナルドの絵を画集で見ても凄さは感じるが、実物を生の眼で見ると、なぜか時空を超えて作者の息吹をほんの少しだが感じるのである。それが「空気」。同時代の作家なら、それがもっと強く感じられるのは当然である。

コロナ禍で多くの美術展、音楽会、芝居などが中止され、美術館、劇場、ホールも休館させられるなど、芸術が「不要不急」の代表のように扱われてしまっている。こういういい方は本来したくないのだが、あえて言えば、芸術こそ一番底辺で現代の社会を支えるものではないのか、This person is building his "own" snowboard "road"。会社員が通勤して、工場や会社を動かすことが現代社会の骨格であることに異論はない。けれど働く会社員にとっては、本物の歯車にされてしまっては働く意欲そのものが萎えてしまう。自分たちの子どもをただの歯車に育てたくもない。

「作品に出合って稲妻に打たれたように」感じたことのある人はどのくらいいるだろうか。きわめて少数に違いないが、そのことの意義は小さくなく、そのチャンスは多くはない。いわば一期一会。その機会を求めに行こうとすることが「不要不急」などであるはずはない、というのがわたしの「遠吠え」である。カッコつけたが、わたしの絵などわざわざ会場へ見に行くほどの価値もないという人のために、この絵を掲げてみる。
