審査にかかる出品数は毎年1000点を超えるかつては1500点を軽く超え入選率も3割ちょっとしかなかったいろいろ工夫をして(良かったかどうかは判断が分かれよう)入選率は若干緩くなったがそれでも半分以上は選外になるその中で受賞者になれるのはたった16人だけさらにその上の無鑑査(出品すれば必ず陳列されるという権利)になるには原則3回受賞しなければならないというルールがある審査員がほぼ全員入れ替わる現在のシステムの中でそれは厳しすぎるのではないかという話もちらほら出ているらしい

会場で何人か知り合いの人と会い何人かが故人になったことを知った出品をつづけている人の作品を見てもすっかりかつての面影のない作品もある(わたしもその一人かも)。But、それはたくさんの作品群の中で見るから個人の流れの中でじっくり見ればきっとそれなりの存在価値を持って制作されているのだと思う
 高校生たちの出品はあっけらかんとしている(ように見える)が入選した作品を見るとモヤモヤした傷つきやすさのようなものを感じる中には驚くような技量を見せる人もいるが多くは画面を埋めるだけで精一杯勉強もあるのだからそれで十分立派だ部活の先生の指導もあるのかあまり破綻がないのがかえって残念と言えば残念な感じ

入選受賞率だけ見ると確かに厳しい数字だがそこに若い(あるいは現役バリバリの)精鋭たちが集まって過熱しているかといえばそれはないそういう人たちはもっと厳しい別の世界を求め作っている。In that sense、県展は現代と同時代進行しながら過去を重くまとった別ワールドになりつつあるのかな不自由な脚を引きずりながら身の丈ほどもある作品を子どもや孫の手を借りて出品する人たちを見ているとそれでもここに大事な世界があることを知る
