今日（2022.8.1）も暑かった。気象庁発表の、17時20分現在での全国の最高気温（速報値）は、福井県小浜市の39.1℃。当地のこれまでの最高気温は2014/7/26の38.7℃だから、地元ではかつて誰も味わったことのない気温だということになる。2位の鳥取県米子市が当地観測史上タイの38.9℃。10位までにいくつも日本海側の市が並んでいるから、いわゆるフェーン現象だったのだろう。明日は埼玉県熊谷市で40℃になりそうだというから恐ろしい。

わたしは夏が苦手である（と思っている）。But、夏はぐったりして絵も描けないかというとそうでもなく、むしろ夏の方が制作量がこれまではずっと多かった。But、今年の夏は何だか例年より暑く感じられる。コロナもあるし、そのうえここ一週間大腿部から膝にかけて原因のよく分からない痛みもあり、外へでる機会も制作量も減っている。

理由はそれだけではない。お察しのとおり「ビデオ編集に時間がかかるから」。このビデオも先週金曜の夜にはアップする予定だったが、録音の際に（たぶん）クーラーの音か電源ケーブルから発生した低周波が耳障りになり、その対処法にたどり着くまでに時間がかかった。一生懸命作ってはいるが、なにせまだビデオ製作1年生だから、撮影からアップロードまでのすべてが、大小のトラブルでできているようなものなのだ。

作品の制作量が減っただけでなく、ビデオ製作のために水彩を描くという、逆立ち状態になっている。初めは制作風景や大作のプロセスを単純に撮影、そのまま動画にすればいいなどと軽く考えていたが、そちらの方がむしろ大変なことなのだった。なので今のところは撮影環境がコンパクトで、仕上がりに時間のかからない水彩画か、CGスケッチが精一杯。油彩画やテンペラ画などの時間の要るビデオ製作にはまだまだとても手が出ない。それでも少しずつ前進しているとは思うが、どんなものでしょうか。批判でもなんでもいい。見てもらえることが励みにも勉強にも、ボケ防止にもなっている、maybe。

7月7日にブログにアップしたこの絵のプロセスの動画を、昨日（7/21）YouTube（青いカモメの絵画教室） にアップした。編集にあしかけ３週間（そのうちの1週間以上は何もできず）かかった。画像編集が終わってからのナレーションの方がむしろ時間がかかる。下手なナレーションなど無い方がいいのではないか、と毎回自問しつつ。

「動画は短ければ短いほどいい」のだそうだ。聞くと「40秒」以内が主流になりつつあるという。スポーツやダンスなどでは、40秒あれば確かにそこそこの勝負まで伝えられる。大相撲名古屋場所がコロナ蔓延の中で興行中だが、相撲の結果だけ見たい人にとっては勝敗一覧表の1秒でいいし、取り組みダイジェストを動画で見れば、ライブなら2時間かかる幕内全取り組みを数分で見終える。

けれど絵のようなもので何が伝えられるかというと考えてしまう。完成作を見るだけならそもそも動画にする必要などない。動画にする意味は、まずそのプロセスに興味がある人にたいしてだけ。そういう人がどれだけいるかと考えてみると、膨大な時間を使ってほとんど無意味なことを自分はしているのではないか、そんな暗澹たる思いにとらわれてしまう。

「40秒」という悪魔の囁き。聞かない方がよかったのか、それとも聞いてよかったのか。この暑さの中で、心がキューっと冷えていく気がする。
