音楽に関するわたしの話題はとても少ない。To be honest、音楽についてはまったくの門外漢である。However,、嫌いなわけではなく、むしろ大好きであるし、音楽の力によってどれほど励まされ、慰められてきたか数知れない。「あらゆる芸術は音楽を理想とする」という言葉もあるように、わたしもまたそれをひとつの理想だと感じるひとりである。

However、わたしの聴き方は、音楽をこよなく愛する人々から見れば、おそらく最低の聴き方であるに違いない。じっと音楽に聴き入るということはほとんどない。ひたすら制作中のBGMであり、いい曲だなとボリュームを上げることはあっても、曲名をメモしたりすることなど滅多にない。あってもリクエストをしたり、曲を検索したりすることもほぼない。NHK-FMを聴くことも少なくないが、BBCのラジオ２か３をかけっぱなしにすることが一番多い。NHK-FMはわたしにとって一種の教養番組であり、教養は深まるだろうとは思うけれど、制作中では意味の分かる言葉が邪魔で仕方がない。That point、英語の音楽チャンネルなら意味は解らないし、喋りも少なく、大助かりだからである。

どんな音楽が好きかというと、なんでも、というしかない。寛容というより、こだわるほどの情熱も知識もないということ。フォークロアがいいと思えば、ロックも好き、という調子。時間的にはロックが一番多いかな。ロックはわたしの制作のリズムに合うだけでなく、精神的エネルギー補給にも役立っている。同じくらいの時間がクラシック。ポップスもジャズもこだわりなく、流れてくれば聴くが、いわゆる演歌はほとんど聴かない。決して嫌いではないが、意味の分かる言葉が耳に入ると制作の邪魔になるからである。that's why、お酒を飲んだり、リラックスしているときは演歌でも浪曲でもぜんぜん構わない。日本の民謡は好きだが、○○よいとこ一度はおいで、的な（近代の）歌詞ばっかりでは面白くない。たまに古い音源を採集したものなどを放送されると聴き入ってしまう。人の声は案外好きで、美しい声だけでなくホーミーとか、チベット仏教の勤行のCDなどもたまに聴く。

リコーダーが自分の中ではやや得意だった。フォーク世代のせいで、わたしも人並みにフォークソングを歌い、フォークギターをかき鳴らした。いまでもコードを見れば弾けそうな気がするが、実際やってみたら無理だろう。ハーモニカを吹ける人が羨ましい。学校でも習う機会がなく、今も遠い存在のまま。優しい音が好きというわけでもなく、エレキギターの、あのギュ~ンという激しさも大好きなのだから、はっきり言ってシッチャカメッチャカだ。パーカッションが意外に好きで、昔はパーカッションだけのコンサートに何度か出かけたりしたこともある。弦楽器はどれも好きだが、チェロの渋い音には心が共鳴してしまう。
