上の写真は、東京へ絵を運ぶ時にいつも通る、国道4号線にかかる橋からの車窓風景。絵になる場所だなと直感するが、車を降りて取材したことはない。あらためて取材に出かけたらきっと収穫があると思いつつ、その時が過ぎると次の機会まで思い出すこともなかった。
取り立てて「ここが良い！」と強調するようなところがないのがいいのかもしれない。「穏やかな日常」の表現に適当な場所、I guess that's what。世界は至るところ戦火がひろがっているし、日本の中も災害やSNSなどを使った詐欺事件などで気持ちが落ち着かない。「絵になる場所」、と思った時から10年は経ったかもしれない今になってこういう風景を描くのも、あながち年のせいとばかりも言えない気がする。
庭の椿を3枚ほど描いてみた。これまでに何枚この椿を描いたか数えてないが、少なくとも10枚は水彩で描いているはずだから、ある程度までは見なくても描ける。But、実際に見るとやはり植物も “生き物” だということをいつもいつも強く感じる。「生（せい）のオーラ」がわたしにも降りかかってくる。
白い花に赤い斑（ふ）の入っているのが美しい。花は大きく立派だが、それを支える “首” のところがなぜか不釣合いに細く、花の重さを支えきれない。that's why、ほとんどの花が下をむいてしまう。これは “品種改良” 中ゆえの問題だろうが、 “当事者” である椿にとっては「どうしてくれるんだ！」とでも言いたいに違いない。
probably、この椿は赤い花の台木に白い椿を継いだものだろう。その証拠に、ときどき先祖返りして、真っ赤な花が全体の中で1輪くらい咲く。木も「血筋」を主張しているんだろうね。そう考えると、この赤い斑が一滴の血のように見えてくるから不思議なものだ。
