「風土に生きるⅦ」展が11月7日(soil)まで銀座、ギャラリー風で開催中。コロナの渦中ですが、元気な人は見に来てください。
いろんな意味で、今年はひとつのターニングポイント、だと感じています。作品的にはここ数年、線・面・色彩などの造形要素を明確にする意識で制作してきましたが、それだけを純化・追及するという方向性はもともと持っていないので、このあたりがひとつの成果かも知れません。
「追及」という姿勢自体がひとつの「抑制」でもあります。ひとつの方向性以外のものをできるだけそぎ落として、その結果をストイックに積み重ねていくという方法をとらざるをえないからです。
今後は、枝分かれ的に追及してきたいいくつかの方向性を再び統合していきたいと、I'm thinking。そんなことは、実は30年前に既に無意識的にやっていたことですが、それを「意識的」に再構成しようというわけです。「総合的」ということは何でもありということにつながり、質的にどんどん甘くなる危険性をも孕んでいます。その辺をどうやって律していくのか、自分の中の美学？が問われるところです。どうなるでしょうか。
勝ち続ける賭け、というものはおそらく、ない。得るものと失うものが必ずあり、何を得、何を失ったか、その「何か」で、たとえば勝ち負けを判断するのが妥当ではないか。
賭けとは「選択」の別の言い方だ。「選択しない」という選択も含め、誰もが常に何かを選択している。時間が一瞬も止まることがないように。
失敗しないように、時間をかけてよく考えることも選択だ。諦めて放り出すことも一つの選択。どちらが正しいのか、その時点では誰も分からない（もしかすると結果の出たあとでさえ）。that's why、生きるということは、つまりは賭けなのだ。
覚悟のできた賭けがいいと思う。根拠はないが。
