一昨日（6/15）、久しぶりにスケッチに出かけた。最近はタブレットを使って描いてばかりだから、手が動かないかと心配したが杞憂だった。風景スケッチは楽しい。見て歩くだけでも楽しいのに、描いたスケッチが手元に残るというお土産もある。仲間がいるのもいい。

以前は多人数でスケッチに行くのは億劫だった。一度スケッチに出たら最低でもスケッチブック一冊（今は17ページくらいのものが多い）を描かなくては気が済まなかった。スケッチは続けて描くうちにリズムが掴めてきて、ぐんぐんスピードがあがり、シャープになり、視点も研ぎ澄まされてくるものだ。that's why、だらだら描いていてはいけない。描いたらすぐ移動することを繰り返すのが、上達のコツだと思っている。多人数ではそんなマイペースが守れない。

But、最近は気心の知れた仲間たちとスケッチに行くのも悪くない、と思うようになった。教室の人たちのレベルが上がり、何とかペース合わせられる程度になってきたせいもある（わたしも随分我慢強くなったし）が、スケッチとそれを描く人とのあいだに興味が移ってきたことが大きいような気がする。

「スケッチと、それを描く人のあいだ」。「人間性」といえば少し大げさな気がするが、まあ「人となり」というのがそれに近いだろうか。おっとりした人がゆったりした絵をかくとは限らない。おしゃべりな人が饒舌なスケッチを描くとは限らないのだ。下手な絵にも存外深い意味はあり、遠近法の狂った絵にもその人となりが鮮やかに輝くこともあるだろう。世間話をしながらその人の描きぶりを見、スケッチを見る。そうやって、いわば人間のスケッチもする。それも、というよりもしかしたら、そちらの方が面白いと感じるようになってきたのかもしれない。
