先日車を運転中、赤信号で停まった道端でカラスが鳩を食べていた。そいつが鳩を襲ったのか、車に轢かれた鳩を食べていただけなのかは分からないが、鳩がカラスの獲物の一つであることは10年前？のNHKの番組で知っていた。けれど鳩の方ではその後もまだカラスが天敵であるとの認識は無いらしい。
朝っぱらからカラスのけたたましい鳴き声で、目が覚めたことがある。我が家の前で、車に轢かれた猫の死骸に興奮したカラスが群がり、車が通るたびに威嚇か興奮の鳴き声をあげているのだった。カラスは雑食だが、都会ではより肉食化しているのは確か。それは私たちの残飯に肉・骨が多くなっているからだろう。
昨日（４月２１日）渋谷のbunkamuraでルーベンス展を観た。
今回は下塗りに注目した。板に描いた油彩による小さな素描などではそれがとても見やすかった。ルーベンスの下塗り（地塗りとは別）は通常の下塗りよりずっと薄く、明るく施してあるのを再発見。その上にやや濃い茶色でデッサン（下塗りが明るいからそれで十分な効果）をサラリと、しかし的確に（まるで鉛筆で描いたように）描く。写真のタッチを見てください。油彩でもこのタッチで描いてます！。次に白をハイライトに立体感を強め、それが乾いてからしっかりした色付けをする。制作にかかる時間、日数は極めて短時日だったに違いない。デッサン力を活かす、おそらく最適の方法ではないだろうか。
