「少年老いやすく学成り難し」とは「論語」にある言葉だそうだ。無学無教養を恥ずかしく思いつつも、だからと言って特に努力もしなかった。
そもそも「勉強」の意味がよく解らなかった。論語でいう「学」も、所詮は処世術ではないか、という意識が強かった。今も不勉強の言いわけに使っている。
