　編集画面ではクリップのすべてを一目で見渡すことなどできないから（可能ではあるが、どれがどれか判別できないほど小さく表示される）、それが消滅したりすることに気がつかない。「消した憶えはないがなあ」とボヤきつつ、また別のクリップのリンクを切って、そこに穴埋めをする（問題行為の上塗り！）。そんな処理を数十回（数百回？）繰り返したおかげで、切り貼りだらけでどこが元なのか判然としない、奇怪な映像データに積みあがってしまった（映像を流すと普通には見えるが）。

修整は、単純に無駄な時間であり、とても大きな負担だが、一方で「これはまるで人間の社会のようだ」とも思えてきた。切ったはずの縁の先がどこかで繋がって、また自分に還ってくる。切った、繋いだの痕跡が必ずどこかに残っていて、そこで別の縁で繋がった誰かに引っ付く。自覚できない縁が見知らぬ場所で生まれている―まさに社会。―そうか、こんなふうに物事を見るべきなんだな―考えてみれば、人間の感情や嗜好などとは無縁に見えるデジタルの世界も、それを作ったのが人間である以上、人間の痕跡が残らないはずはない、どころかむしろ人間（社会）をモデルにしか発想できないはずなのだ（鳶の発想だの、メダカの発想なんて現実的に無理だろ？）、と気がついた。今回はビデオ編集しながら、ずいぶん社会学習を学ぶ場になりました。
