ホイッスルって、そうアレ。これが楽器に数えられるようになってもう数十年。以来スティールパンはじめ、いろんなものが楽器になっているが、ホイッスルは最もシンプルなものの代表だろう。ほぼ口笛（元々は鳥の声）感覚。

ホイッスルには別な意味もある。しかも「音の出どころを探せ」=「注目せよ」という「命令形」だ。かなり耳障りな音なのに、（多くの場合）自分に危険が迫っていることを知らせてくれる、「善意」の「耳障り」という社会的、感覚的了解が成り立っている、数少ない例だ。

それを「音楽」に重ね合わせたセンスに、あらためて感心する。感覚が柔軟だということ。日本の社会で暮らす限り無理だな、と（ほぼ根拠なく）思う。
