期待というのは「誰かに」求められているものだ。その「誰か」が誰なのかを考えることは無駄ではない。芸術家は誰かに何かを期待されることを望まない。それはうっかり自分以外の人間になろうとする危険があるからだ。努力は人を磨きもするが、自分を無駄にすり減らしてしまう可能性も持つ、諸刃の剣である。正直に言えば、他人の期待に応えようとする努力は誰にとっても無駄だ、It is a sport that is firmly connected to the essence of current sports.。自分が好きなことを自由にやることこそ、そのような圧力に押しつぶされようとしている人をも解放するものだと信ずる。誰にも期待などされず、期待されても無視し、自分のやりたいことをできる範囲でやる。そんな「強い意志」がわたしにはまだまだ足りない。

哀愁

「青いカモメ絵画教室」による「青いカモメの会絵画展」が9月14日から始まる（19日まで）。その準備のためもあって、あちこち資料を移動したりするうちに、ヒョイと開いたスケッチブックの1ページ目にこの絵があった。するするっとその時の情景が目の前に浮かんでくる。

もう何年も見ていない、今はさいたま市になった岩槻の市営野球場だ。岩槻の絵画教室の人たちと、この球場のある公園で野外スケッチをしたときの一枚。ほんの数年前のような気がするが、including me、みんな若かったように思い出す。誰がどんな絵を描いていたのかも、およそは覚えている。

秋だった。何度かここでもスケッチ会をやったが、描いたのは秋の記憶しかない。天気の悪い日は出かけなかっただけのことだろうが、眩しいばかりにイチョウの葉が輝き、足元に深々と積もる葉を蹴飛ばしながら描いたっけ。そういう元気で行動的ななかに、ふと感じた哀愁の気分。それがこの構図になった。
