8/8 下北・東通村へ行く。昨日（8/5）、東通村の最高気温18° だという（数日前は29°まで上がったらしいが）。同じ下北でも、常にむつ市より2〜3°は低い。連日の36°、37°の関東地方から行くと、涼しいを通り越して「寒い」だろうな、surely。
この気温、例年のこと。ようするにヤマセで日が差さない日はこうなる。夏場はヤマセのため特に霧が出て、数年に一度は極端に日照時間が少なく、冷害になる。1988年の8月は、1か月の日照時間がたったの4分 。霧が濃く、日中でもヘッドライトつけて走ったのを覚えている。北海道、襟裳岬や釧路によく似た気候。海抜0mで水芭蕉が群生するなど、湿地が多い点も共通する。
母の見舞いとお盆を兼ねて。例年なら涼しい中で制作三昧、というところだが、どうも今年はそうもいかないようだ。行くのも正直、少し気が重い。台風にぶつからないといいけど。
今日も当地の予報では最高気温38°だって。ウンザリを通り過ぎて、形容詞の不足を感じる。少しは暑さに慣れようと、クーラーを使わずに汗をかいていると、「クーラーを使って、熱中症にならないように」と防災放送が流れてくる。
我が窓辺の植物にも「日除け」した。全員暑いのが好きな植物たちだが、さすがに今年は「焼けた」。あやうく、「多肉植物の干物」を作るところだった。

温暖化で、頼りとする海氷が消え、狩りができずに餓死するホッキョクグマの写真を載せようと思ったが、やめた。自分がクーラーをつけた部屋の中にいて、地球温暖化を単純に批判するのも、「ちょっと待って、もう少し考えよう」と思う。
