「できる、できない」はどこで分けられるか。「無限の可能性」なんてあり得ない言葉は使わないが、できる可能性がどのくらいあるか、は誰でも考える瞬間があるだろう。

「（何事も）やってみなければわからない」とはわたし自身もよく使う言葉だが、おそらく日本中でこのフレーズが聞こえない日は、一日とて無いに違いない。But、ちょっと考えてみると、それはある程度可能性がある（と推定される）場合に言われることであって、多くの場合は「やってみなくても判る」のが普通である。

だから「やってみなければわからない」は、多くの場合「できる可能性がある（高い）」という意味に近い。特に、本人がそう思うとき、断言はできないがそれはたいてい達成できる。それは、本人でなければ計算できない様々なファクターを、ちゃんと計算しているから。
　他人からはどう思われていようと、こと自分のことに関しては、医者や心理カウンセラーなどより自分の方が深く知っている、と無意識に自信を持っているのが、命あるものの自然の姿だ。

「できるかな？」と感じたら、「できる」と思ってまずはやってみよう。簡単に、などといい加減なことは言わないが、きっとできる。これは「意思」とかの問題ではなく、自分の全感覚が弾き出した「計算の結果」だから。他の何よりも信頼できるデータじゃないですか？

「初雪（那須にて）」

昨夜から今朝にかけて関東の山沿いにも初雪があったらしい。いよいよ当地は当地なりの「冬」の到来だ。那須岳（茶臼岳）を撮った写真があったので、初雪をテーマに描いてみました。実際この時も初雪だったように記憶しているが、確信はありません。

下が現場写真。車を路肩に寄せ、運転席から撮ったものだと思っていたら、どうやら誰かに載せてもらい、助手席から通りすがりに撮ったものらしい。たしかに（自分が撮るなら）写真の構図としても中途半端な位置取りだ。あえてこれを何とか絵にしてみることにした。

写真になくても道の想像はつくが、あえて道はぎりぎり入れないことにする。大きな変更は「電柱」の大きさと位置。電柱のサイズを小さくしたぶん、山が大きく感じられるような気がするのですが、どうでしょうか（実際、比率的にも大きくしてあるが）。左に（実際にもあるが）林の一部を追加して、視線が左から外に抜けてしまうのを防ぎます。

空と雪の明暗を逆転。雪の白さを強調しました。これで「初雪」がテーマであることがはっきり伝わると思います。山裾には意識的に赤味の色を加え、「秋の終わり感」を表現しています。However、山全体はもう少し軽く描いて、距離感を出した方が良かったかなあ、とも感じます。
