グライダーはいったん飛び立てば、ある意味風次第ともいえる飛行機です。枯葉のように風まかせではなく、ちゃんとコントロールします。自然の風でサーフィンしているような感じでしょうか。
スマートでナチュラルでナイーブ。自然体な感じがカッコイイですね。Forcibly、言葉的に人間に当てはめると「風来坊」とでも言えるんでしょうか、でもこちらはちっともカッコよく感じません。
人は自力で飛ぶことに憧れてきました。エンジンを発明し、その推力で短い翼でも飛べるようになり、もっと早く、もっと長く飛ぶことが目標になりました。And、とうとう戦闘機を作りました。
グライダーもそれなりの規模で戦争に使われた例はあります。But、結局その風来坊性が、グライダーを主役にはしませんでした。人間も、風来坊では（たぶん）戦争やあらゆる競争というものに勝てないでしょう。カッコ悪くても、それがいいところだとわたしは思うのですが。
