「青いカモメを描く絵画展」と勘違いして、カモメの絵ばかり並んでいると思った「カモメのファン」と一度だけ、偶然に会場でお会いしたことがあります。「カモメ（海鳥）」をテーマにした絵画展ではありません。伸び伸びと、絵画の空を飛んで欲しいと願ってのネーミングです。その名の通り、皆さん伸び伸び自由に描いています。ぜひご覧くださいますようお願いいたします。
桜に対する日本人の “熱愛” は “超” 特別だ。その一種の「異常性」が普通の日本人（わたしも含め）には正常と感じられている、という異常性の出発点は「小学校の桜」にあるのではないか、と多くの人が述べている通りだと思う。わたしの知る限りでも、校庭に桜が無いという学校を見たことがない。現実空間には存在しない「デジタル小学校」のようなものがあったとしても、きっと画面のどこかに桜が入っているに違いない、とさえ思う。
さらに花のタイミング。幼少期の大きなイベントは多く学校に関わることが多い。その中でも入学、卒業は特別な意味を子どもにも感じさせる。その背景にいつも桜がある。東日本大震災は3月だった。震災直後の満開の桜は、その清々しさゆえに喜びよりもむしろたくさんの日本人の涙を誘ったものだった。桜は単に花であるだけでなく、深い心情を伴った象徴でもある。そのことが、モノとして桜を描くことをさらに難しくする。
