オレンジピール

クッキーかなと、頂いたピンクの袋を開けたらオレンジピール。春になったのを感じた。妻の実家には夏ミカンの木がたくさんあり、子どもがまだ小さい頃は休みの度に連れて行き、その実をもいだものだった。

自分の頭ぐらいの大きな実をもぎ取る体験が非日常的でエキサイトするから、使う目的も無くやたらに摘み取ってしまう。one day、山のように盛り上がった夏ミカンをどうしようか頭の隅で悩みつつ、オレンジピール作りを子どもに持ちかけた。ガス代とグラニュー糖代の方がかかるとの反対を押し切って、はじめて二人だけで作ってみた。苦みがあり、チョコレートも無かったが、とても喜んでくれた。どっさり作ってしばらく楽しんだいい思い出だ。

それ以来、子どもを喜ばすことなどやってあげた記憶がほとんどない。自分のことだけで一杯一杯だった気がする。いまさら反省したって遅いが―「へぇーっ、チョコレートのボリュームがすごいね」と息子。やっぱり買ったものとは違うね、と妻。「これは夏ミカンじゃないね。苦みがないもの」とわたし。

ah、気持に余裕がないなあ。気分的なものだけでなく、すべてに余裕がなくなってきた。生きている残り時間も含めて。せめてわたしも、何か美味しいものを自分で作るだけの気持を取り戻したいなあ。
