ニュースなどによると、「危険な暑さ」は世界中に広がっているのだそうです。北アフリカで発生した熱波「カロン」によって、イタリアなどではすでに40℃以上の気温が数日続いており、さらに数日中に、ローマでヨーロッパの過去最高気温48.8℃を上回りそうだと言われています。中国・新疆ウイグル自治区ではすでに50℃越えを記録したとか。正直言って想像もしたくない気温ですね。
　そういうところで、すべての人がクーラーを使えているかといえば、たぶんそうではないでしょう。クーラーのない人にとって（故障中あるいは経済的その他の理由で使えない人にとって）、本物の「危険な暑さ」だと思います。十年ほど前だったか、同じような熱波がヨーロッパや南北アメリカ大陸を襲った時があり、その時も大勢の人が亡くなったという記憶が甦りました。
　ウクライナ南部では、ダムが破壊されたあとの洪水の影響でコレラなどの感染症が発生し、塹壕などさらに劣悪な環境の中で蔓延しかかっていると報告されているようです。“戦争などしている場合か！”と思いますが、それを止められるのは世界中でたった一人、狂ったプーチン氏だけというのが二重に恐ろしい現実です。

　暑い日差しの中で海水浴をしながら、海岸べりに群生しているハマナスの実を採ったりした子どもの頃のことなど、この異常な世界の中ではまるで夢の中の出来事のようです。いずれにせよ、夏はまだ始まったばかり（確かまだ梅雨明けもしていなかったはず）。どうぞ“ご無事に”この夏をお過ごしください。

わが町（市だが）の夏祭りも昨日の日曜日、午後10時終了となりました。自宅のはす向かいに神社があるので、毎夕、笛やお囃子太鼓の練習がそこで行われていました。引っ越してきたときはうるさく感じましたが、いつの間にか慣れてしまい、聞こえてるのに聴いてない、という耳の使い方ができるようになってしまったようです。気分が沈み加減の時などは元気も出、悪い気はしません。

わたしが学生の頃、有名な東京の三社祭でも担ぎ手がいなくなり、祭りの開催自体がやっとやっとだったのを思い出すと、ひところの祭りブームほどではないけれど、隔世の感があります。コロナの後ですから（今もコロナは続いているようですが、もう医療機関自体がオオカミ少年のように思われてしまっています）、なおさらそう感じるのでしょうか。

日本の人口は年々縮小し、地方へ行くほどその幅は大きくなっているようです。祭りができるかどうかは、市町村が存続できるかどうかのバロメーターでもあるのかもしれません。広報を見ると当市も少しずつ人口が減少しているそうで、替わりに少しずつ外国人の方が増えてきていると感じます。もっとたくさん、いろんな国の人が住みやすい街になり、地方から国際性が育てばいいと思いますが、地域の閉鎖性を考えるとほぼ希望は持てません。
　祭りは地域の繋がりを作ります。暖かみのある地域は、たくさんのこうした交流を通じてできていくものだと思います。on the other hand、強い繋がりは強い排他性も同時に持ちやすいものです。野生動物の縄張り意識にも似た組織、身内意識のようなものでしょうか。That's、いつの間にかグロテスクに変質していくさまを、わたしたちはウクライナ戦争の始まりでもやっぱり見てしまいました。

大事なのは、「ひと」以外にありません。。祭りは一人ではできませんし、できたって一人じゃ面白くないでしょう。山車を引く人も、見るだけの人も、一人ではできない「何か良いもの」を共有できることが愉しいんですよね。再来年開催予定の大阪万博が、内外に今一つ不人気なようです。想像ですが、主催者には見積書しか見えてないのではないでしょうか。ひとりひとりを「人数」としか見ない社会には、未来は見えてこない。万博がそれを証明するイベントになりそうな気がしています。
