空虚なすき間が嫌だ。難しい話ではなく、単純にプラスチックゴミの隙間のこと。

たとえばわたしが毎日食べるヨーグルトの容器。だいたい400cc入りのが多いが、一度に200ccずつ食べるので、2日に1個容器がゴミになる。紙の容器なら潰してしまえるが、中には硬い、しっかりした容器がある。この頑丈さが何かに転用できるならいいのだが、捨てるとなると、その内側の空間が嫌だ、という馬鹿馬鹿しいような話です。

そこに何か別の捨てるものを詰めこまなくては気が済まない。ぽっかり空いた空間が許しがたいのである。揚げ物のパック、豆腐や納豆のパック、お寿司などの惣菜用パック、どれもこれも許し難い隙間を見せつけてくる。that's why、ハサミを入れ、ペッタンコにすると、やっと気持が納まる。But、家族がむしろそのことを嫌がるのである。
　家族はプラスチックごみの日、まるまると膨らんだ大きな袋を出すことを気にしない。わたしはペッタンコの小さなゴミにしたい。But、わたしも忙しいときはほったらかしで、徹底しているわけではないから喧嘩まではしない。

　一方で、絵画や彫刻、建築などの芸術空間はもちろん、生活空間にモノを詰め込むことには苦痛を感じるのだから、わたしの頭の中はずいぶんと自分勝手だとも思う。But、たぶんわたしは特殊ではない。どころかおそらく、きっとそういう人の方が多いのではないか、とさえ考えている。赤信号みんなで渡れば怖くない、と安心しているけれど。
